What does "The Foursquare Gospel" mean?

Springfield Faith Center is part of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

The early 20th century evangelist, Aimee Semple McPherson, was a pioneer of women in ministry. Having experienced a profound religious conversion at age 17, Aimee began preaching across the United States and later, the world. In 1918, she established her base in Los Angeles, California, where in 1923, the 5,500 seat Angelus Temple was dedicated and became the center of her revival, healing and benevolent ministries. She was the first woman to receive a FCC radio license and was a pioneer religious broadcaster. Her sermons were the first to incorporate the contemporary communications of that day into her preaching of the Gospel. From Angelus Temple she performed an extensive social ministry, providing hot meals for more than 1.5 million people during the Great Depression. She summarized her message into four major points known as "The Foursquare Gospel,"

1. Jesus Christ the Saviour- (John 3:16; Act 2:12)
2. Jesus Christ the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit- (Mark 1:8; Acts 2:4)
3. Jesus Christ the Healer- (Hebrews 13:8; James 5:14-15)
4. Jesus Christ the Coming King- (John 14:3; I Thessalonians 4:16-15)

and founded a denomination called The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.

From its beginning at Angelus Temple, The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel has now grown to include more than 1,900 churches in the United States and Canada, and over 24,000 churches worldwide. There are currently more than 2.8 million members in 99 countries around the world.

Why should I be baptized?

God has provided everything necessary for His children to become all that He intended them to be.  If we follow His plan for our lives we are guaranteed to become strong Christians. One of the first steps a new Christian should take is to be baptized in water.  The external significance of water baptism can be clearly seen when we examine what the Bible teaches.  Following is a brief overview of the importance of water baptism.

What Is It?

Jesus stressed the vital importance of water baptism when He commanded His followers to baptize all those who became Christians:

^{Mt 28:19} Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Water baptism is far more than a ritual or religious exercise.  It is intended to be an essential part of the spiritual foundation of all new Christians.  At the time of a believer's baptism he outwardly affirms the inward commitment he has made to Jesus Christ as the Lord of his life.

Who Is It For?

All Christians are admonished to be water baptized:

^{Mk 16:16} Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

^{Ac 2:38} Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

When Should One Be Baptized?

A person should be baptized after they repent of their sins (Acts 2:38), and when they believe in Christ’s death and resurrection for their sins (Romans 10:9,10).

How does SFC keep children safe?

• The "Two Person" rule--having two people in any setting with children
• Background checks of all adult workers, and screening of youth volunteers
• At check-in all children through 3rd grade are issued a number tag and only released when that tag is returned
• Posted fire and emergency evacuation information with occasional drills
• We are mandatory reporters of illegal or abusive behavior involving children

What about finances?

We take our financial responsibilities very seriously here at Springfield Faith Center. The finances are watched over by our Church Council who are elected every year by the Church membership. Council members are chosen by their walk with Jesus, their integrity and by their ability to manage money. We have a two person rule in handling all our finances and all contibutions are kept confidential. Any member can request to inspect our books by appointment.

We accept tithes and offerings through our weekend services, the mail, or if you set up an account with your local bank for "bill pay". If you're not sure about the distinction between tithes and offerings, read the descriptions below. We thank you for your joyful giving and pray that God blesses you for your obedience and generosity.

Tithing to the church
The money you give as tithe is put in our general fund and used to pay personnel costs, adult ministry expenses, youth ministries expenses, mortgages and leases, facility operations and maintenance, and tithe (to the National Office International Church of the Foursquare Gospel).

Offering Opportunities
Offerings are when you give money for specific missions, projects and ministries. These are what we call "Designated Funds." Unless the ministry or project is approved by the Church Council, designated giving is not tax deductible.

Some Designated Funds that are Tax Deductible Can Include:
Missions, Love (Benevolence) Fund, Building Fund, Men/Women's Ministry, Adopt-a-Neighbor, Restoration, Youth Ministries, Special Offerings.

Non-Tax Deductible Funds Include:
Gifts to specific persons within the church, Any ministry activity in which you pay for a specific good or service, Camps or Retreats, Journals, CDs.

Another Unique Way To Give:
If you have newspapers lying around the house please bring them by the church and deposit them into our newspaper bins outside. We get paid every month by the pound for your newspapers. This money goes into supplies and upkeep for the kitchen and other various projects around the church building.

Other Information Regarding Tithes and Offerings
Springfield Faith Center sends out contribution statements at the end of the year for tax purposes. Expect your yearly statement at the end of January following the tax year. Please make sure to include your first and last name & current address with clear handwriting on all giving (checks and cash given) to the church for an accurate statement.

The 1st Sunday of the month is designated to Missions Outreach. The 3rd Sunday of the month is designated to Love/Benevolence Fund Outreach. Please make sure if you are giving to these funds to mark them clearly on your check or envelope.
