Two Defining Ideas:

1 John 1:5-6, 1 John 1:8, John 1:6-9

• Sin is the action or state of disagreeing with God’s will.
• For John, light and dark have to do with our understanding of Kingdom life.

Three Corrections:

1 John 1:6-2:2, Romans 3:21-26

• Healthy fellowship includes living in agreement with God’s way of life.
• Life with God includes seeing our sin clearly, but not getting stuck in it.
• Christianity is about being transformed from sinfulness into Christ-likeness.

Final Encouragement:

1 John 2:1-2, Romans 8:31-39

• Jesus is our advocate, and our atonement.
